TRANSPORTATION
To travel around main tourists spots in Hokkaido, taking JR is more of a convenient way. Some people
will also take Shinkansen to enter Hokkaido from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station.
Some of the stations in the countryside are unmanned stations, and some local train lines have only 1
operating train, and some lines are going to discontinued in a few years.
You can take a chance experiencing the nostagic vibe of Japan.
The Hakodate Liner (Shinkansen access train) provides convenient access from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, which is the last stop of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, to Hakodate Station. It runs 16 round trips (rapid and local total) a day which takes from 15 to 22 minutes one way and costs JPY360 (USD 3.60) / Adult.
The Airport Rapid Service Train from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station.
There are chances that the train will have a sudden stop or delay, due to the accident of bumping into Yezo sika deer.
The JR Hokkaido Rail Pass is very reasonable and economical for the visitors who use JR for long distance travel and/or multiple times during their stay in Hokkaido.
